Despite several efforts been made by various governments and international organizations to make sure that people get access to a regular supply of potable water. In Ghana, the issue isn’t different. Several governments have TRIED their best to extend water supplies to various part of the country. In December, 1998, the Community Water and Sanitation Agency was established by an act of parliament (ACT 564) with the mandate to facilitate the provision of safe drinking water and related sanitation services to rural communities and small towns in Ghana. Other institutions established by the government included the Ghana Water Company Limited. This company is responsible for the production and distribution of potable water to the urban population which constitutes about 40 percent of the entire Ghanaian population. Despite th
*Mpasatia SHS: Student quits school after bursar rapes her* A second year General Arts student at the Mpasatia Senior High School in the Atwima Nwabiagya District of the Ashanti region has been forced to pack out from the school after the school's bursar raped her. Sources say this is not the first time that the bursar,  Alexander Sarpong, popularly known as 'Action' has been caught in amorous affairs with some female students in the school. The rate of deforestation in Ghana is estimated to be one of the highest in the world after Togo and Nigeria .At an estimated annual rate of 2% ,equivalent to 135,000 hectares per annum. The Green west Africa country is estimated to have lost over 60% of its forest cover from 1950 to date,which translates to about 2.7 million hectares of forest depleted . TURN KUMASI ZOO TO TRANSPORT YARD The 2nd Vice Chairman for Suame Constituency of New Patriotic Party (NPP),  Richard  Asante,  has reiterated the need for the Kumasi Zoological Garden to be relocated to give a facelift to Kumasi. According to him, the current  location could be used as transport yard since no provision was made under the Kejetia project. Speaking to the media after the inauguration of the Suame Municipal Assembly (SMA) yesterday,  Mr Asante said to restore the past glory of Kumasi,  authorities should put in place measures to bring down vehicular traffic within the city. He disclosed that due to unavailability of parking places,  both private and commercial drivers park their vehicles at unauthorized places which stiffen traffic in the city. According to him,  when parking places are provided it will motivate the police to enforce the road traffic regulations to ensure discipline on the roads. The District Chief Executive for Wassa East District, Wilson Arthur, in the Western region collapsed on the grounds of the Independence Day celebration in the course of reading his speech.  The collapsed DCE, was immediately rushed to the Ahmadyyia Muslim Mission hospital at Daboase by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Wassa East constituency, Isaac Adjei Mensah and his entourage. Following the collapse of Mr. Arthur, the District Coordinating Officer, Samuel Owusu Andoh took over and read DCE’s Independence Day speech. The event which was held at Daboase, the district capital, had in attendance the district commander of police, officials from the Ghana Education Service among other distinguished personalities. The DCE later recovered at the hospital and has since been discharged, but not after the event had ended. Meanwhile, at least 25 pupils also collapsed at the Black Star Square during the Independence Day parade as of 12:30.
President for the Cashew Farmers Association of Ghana who doubles as the paramount chief of the Wenchi Traditional Area in the Brong Ahafo Region, Nana Boampong Nsem VI has applauded the Cashew Development Plan launched by the government through the Ghana Export Promotion Authority and the Cashew Industrial Association as a step in the right direction which will focus on boosting production and job creation in the country. The country Director of DKT International, Mr. Mario Alvarez has reiterated their commitment in reducing maternal mortality rate in the country. The organization over the years has organized training workshops for key players on Adverse Drug Reaction Report. Mr. Mario Alverez spoke in an interview with Ghanaiandemocrat.com  on the sidelines of this year’s ADR workshop held in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi and indicated that the training was to ensure public safety. According to the DKT boss, his outfit would want to increase safety of prevalence contraceptive use by creating more awareness in the country. He said the company is investing heavily in the area of Adverse Drug Reporting because its client’s safety has been one of their top priorities. He revealed that Ghana has recorded highest prevalence rate of 26% of HIV/Aids infections in the sub-region. He indicated that 26% out 100% Ghanaian women use contraceptive which to him the country has a long way to go in
